The San Diego Math League competition is multiple-choice and short-answer in format and is given in two divisions, Middle School (6-8)and High School (9-12). Middle School students may participate in the High School division if they choose, but this is not generally to their advantage. High school students are not permitted to participate in the Middle School Division.

Calculators of any kind and any kind of personal electronics are not permitted.

Writing implements, either pen or pencil and traditional geometry tools are all that is needed or permitted.

SDMC provides the exam copy and scratch paper.

SDML scores are the sole qualifying criteria considered for the San Diego Math Olympiad.

Parent Volunteers are needed to supervise students and to proctor and grade the exams.

The exam content is generously provided by the experts at the Art of Problem Solving.
