Caltech Math Meet

(Formerly the Caltech Harvey Mudd Math Competition)

Caltech Math Meet

Event Date:   January 27, 2024

Location:  California Institute of Technology

Signup date:  IMMEDIATELY    (hard cut-off November 29, but don't wait)

The Caltech Math Meet is a team-based event taking place at the California Institute of Technology. Teams of six students each engage in a variety of events throughout the full day of the competition.  It is intended by CMM that most students participate via school-based teams. Thus, if you are interested in CMM you should first check with the teachers and fellow students at your school to see if there is a school team open to you before inquiring to SDMC.  All teams, including SDMC, participate in the same lottery for a limited number of team allocations.  Not all teams submitting to the lottery will "win" a place in the competition.  It is quite possible that SDMC will not be able to participate.

SDMC is prepared to submit and back any team configuration from two full teams (6 students each) down to one incomplete team (one or a few students).  However, owing to the nature of the lottery, no student may signup both with SDMC and  any other team, such as their school team; any student signing up to join an SDMC team must not join any other team also submitting to the lottery.  Students who wish to join an SDMC team must submit all the required information as soon as possible (see below).  Students do not have to be registered members of SDMC to participate on SDMC's team(s), but if our space fills, priority will be given to SDMC members. SDMC will not charge any fees to participating students, but students should plan to contribute a fair share of the transportation costs so our parent volunteers do not have to bear this entire cost alone.

Since CMM is a "road trip", we will need significant support from parent volunteers to provide transportation and other support of the competition such as proctoring and other needs that may develop. CMM is generally a very full day for all of San Diego's participants. It is necessary to leave the San Diego area very early in the morning, and return to San Diego is usually in the mid evening.  Teams joining CMM must be accompanyied by a minimum of one coach/driver/chaperone per team.  More is better.  Every adult on site at CMM must submit the SAME information as each participating student.  Thus, our traveling parents ALSO need to signup along with their students.

REQUIRED INFOMRATION

Every student AND on-site adult must submit the following information to SDMC via our Google Form below; our hard cut-off deadline is Wednesday, November 29.  Do not register directly with CMM.  SDMC will submit group registrations to the CMM lottery.
